Democracy by clicks

There are a lot of problems in today’s world. There is war, terrorism, populism, fake news, alternative facts, etc. how you, as a normal person, can fight any of this? how can we help each other and fight decay of democracy?

This is a question I was asking myself a lot recently. There is a lot you can do with very little efforts. Simple things like singing a petition is all of us think of first but we can actually do more with simple share/like on social media.

Imagine there is a breaking news about Travel Ban. If you share that article on Facebook/Twitter, the news organisation gets more traffic and as a result more people would be aware of the real issue and not the “alternative facts” bullshit from white house.

That’s just the surface impact. When you share articles or like them on social media, you are actually driving more traffic to those websites. These are private companies driven by revenue. They are interested to talk more about the issues people care more about which results to more traffic to their site and that means more ad revenue. You are rewarding them for that. Even if you’ve read the same article, you can still click again on the link. Or even click on ads on the page.

By simply sharing more and liking more, you’d fuel more coverage on the issue and put pressure on politicians to change their behaviour. Humanity is not always progressing. It seems like we’re going backwards these days.

Your clicks are more powerful than you think. Use them!
